Newsletter Quarter 1, Week 3

What We’re Learning About this Week!

Writer’s Workshop-   We are continuing to learn how to be independent writers. Students will learn how to plan a story, how to retell their story across pages and how to add details.
Math- We will compare two three-digit numbers based on meanings of the hundreds, tens, and ones digits, using >;, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons. Use place value understanding and properties of operations to add and subtract. They will also count within 1000; skip-count by 5s, 10s, and 100s.

Reader’s Workshop- Students will:
  • ask and answer different types of questions
    • Predicting - set purpose for reading, help move reading forward
    • Clarifying - make meaning more clear, aid in understanding
    • Wonder - "I wonder..."
    • Author's Craft - "Why did the author...?"
    • Higher Order Questions - go beyond the text
  • compare ways that we ask and answer questions about stories to how we ask and answer questions about informational text
  • use prior knowledge to connect with text
Science: We are discovering sound and making connections, observations and discoveries.
We now need paper towel rolls. We will be using these as number scrolls and helping your child count to 1000! The more rolls you bring the better!
Thank you for bringing in the toilet paper rolls! We are making our kazoos this week!

We have an early release on Friday @ 1:15!
