Quarter 3, Week 6

Math

  • Use addition to find the total number of objects arranged in rectangular arrays with up to 5 rows and up to 5 columns; write an equation to express the total as a sum of equal addends
  • Explain why addition and subtraction strategies work, using place value and the properties of operations
  • Add up to four two-digit numbers using strategies based on place value and properties of operations
  • Mentally add 10 or 100 to a given number 100-900, and mentally subtract 10 or 100 from a given number 100-900

Language Arts
  • Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. Read on-level text orally with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression on successive readings
  • Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple meaning words and phrases based on grade 2 reading and content, choosing flexibly from an array of strategies. Use glossaries, dictionaries, both print and digital, to determine or clarify the meaning of words and phrases
  • Recount or describe key ideas or details from a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media
  • Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text
  • Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section
  • With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including collaboration with peers
  • Participate in shared research and writing projects (ex: read a number of books on a single topic to produce a report)
  • Recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question



Research

  • Understand the structure and properties of matter before and after they undergo a change
  • Compare solids, liquids, and gases based on their basic properties

Quarter 3, Week 4


Valentine's Day:

A class list is on the back of this week's newsletter. Look for it tomorrow in your child's homework folder/binder. 

If your child is passing out snack, please make sure it is store bought, labeled and peanut-free. 

Spring Pictures:

We are scheduled to take our Spring pictures on Wednesday, Feb. 19th. Not only will your child take an individual picture, but we will take our class picture also. 

Math

  • Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces.
  • Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes

Language Arts

  • Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English when writing or speaking. Produce, expand, and rearrange complete simple, and compound sentences (ex: change "The boy watched the movie." to "The action movie was watched by the little boy.")
  • Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about grade 2 topics and texts with peers and adults in larger and smaller groups. Ask for clarification and further explanation as needed about the topics and texts under discussion
  • Recount or describe key ideas or details from a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media
  • With guidance and support from adults and peers, focus on a topic and strengthen writing as needed by revising and editing
 Research

Special Notice

From our dear P.E. teacher, 


 
To the wonderful parents of Lake Myra Elementary, it is will bittersweet feelings that I let each of you know that I will be leaving Lake Myra Elementary School. I have considered it an honor to be your child's PE teacher and be a part of such a wonderful school for almost 4 years.  This was not an easy decision for me to make and I thank you for all that you've done to make my career here one that I will always remember fondly.  I will miss everyone very much and I will miss seeing your faces in the afternoon carpool line.  My last working day will be Wednesday, February 13, 2013.  I do hope to see you in the future as I do plan to visit and hopefully sub on occassion.  Thank you all again and I wish you all only the best!
