Quarter 1, Week 4!

We had two mini-celebrations on Friday from our compliment bingo! They loved working with their stuff animals and taking their shoes off in the afternoon. Gotta love the little things that get them so excited! 

Early Release:

We have an Early Release this Friday, Aug. 23rd with school dismissing at 1:15. Please send a note or email me (lchatterton@wcpss.net) if your child's afternoon transportation is going to be different.

August 19th - August 23rd:
This week, we will cover the following in each subject:


Math
Understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones (ex: 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones)

Count within 1000; skip-count by 5s, 10s and 100s

Read and write numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form

Compare two 3-digit numbers based on meanings of the hundreds, tens, and ones using >, =, < symbols to record the results of comparisons

Language Arts

Ask and answer, such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text

Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases based on grade 2 reading and content, choosing flexibly from an array of strategies. Use sentence-level context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase

Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis in decoding words. Distinguish long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one-syllable words

Write narratives in which a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events is recounted and includes details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings; use temporal words to signal event order; and provide a sense of closure

Research

Understand the relationship between sound and vibrating objects

Illustrate how sound is produced by vibrating objects and columns of air

Summarize the relationship between sound and objects of the body that vibrate - eardrums and vocal cords
