Quarter 1, Week 2

Thank you for helping your child fill their personality bags. It really helps create a classroom community and students loved sharing about themselves! 

Leader In Me:

Last year, Lake Myra won a grant from the Franklin Covey Foundation to be a "Leader In Me" school. There is only one other in Wake County, A.B. Combs, which is also the first one ever. World-wide there are now 1000 schools who participate. Throughout the year, your child will learn the 7 habits of being a leader. Please check your child's backpack nightly for any updated newsletters or information from the school. This past week, school picture information were sent home. Your child will bring home every Friday weekly homework and morning work. Please keep or recycle! : )

This week, we will cover the following in each subject...and much, much more!

Math

• Understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones (ex: 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones)
• Understand also that 100 can be thought of as a bundle of 10 tens; and the numbers 100, 200, 300, etc. refer to one, two, three, etc. hundreds (and 0 tens and 0 ones)
• Read and write numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form.
 

Language Arts

• Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. Use context to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding, rereading as necessary
• Ask and answer, such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text
• Describe the overall structure of a story, including describing how the beginning introduces the story and the ending concludes the action
• Write narratives in which a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events is recounted and includes details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings; use temporal words to signal event order; and provide a sense of closure

Research

• Discuss the 7 Habits of a Leader (Be proactive, Begin with the end in mind; Put first things first; Think win-win; Seek first to understand, then to be understood; Synergize; and Sharpen the saw)
