This week, we will cover the following in each subject:

Math

  • Add and subtract within 1000, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method
  • Explain why addition and subtraction strategies work, using place value and the properties of operations
  • Understand that in adding and subtracting three-digit numbers, one adds or subtracts hundreds and hundreds, tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose or decompose tens or hundreds 

Language Arts

  • Know and apply grade level phonics and word analysis in decoding words. Decode words with common prefixes and suffixes
  • Determine and clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple meaning words and phrases based on grade 2 reading and content, choosing flexibly from an array of strategies. Determine the meaning of the new word formed when a prefix is added to a known word (ex: happy & unhappy; tell & retell)
  • Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section
  • Participate in shared research and writing projects (ex: read a number of books on a single topic to produce a report)
  • Recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question
 

Research

  • Give examples of ways in which people depend on the physical environment and natural resources to meet basic needs
  • Explain how people positively and negatively affect the environment
