What Are We Learning This
Week?
Reading: We
will continue to focus on using “context clues,” one of our many strategies, to
determine the meaning of an unknown word or phrase in a text. We will learn about collective nouns. We will also explain how
specific images (ex: a diagram showing how a machine works) contribute to and
clarify a text.
Vocabulary: We will read Edward and the Pirates. Our vocabulary words this week are comforting, pleaded, firmly, inscription,
and lance.
Writing: We will continue to work
on “juicing up” our stories by adding interesting words and details. With guidance from the teacher, we will also
continue to work on editing.
Math: We will continue working on addition and subtraction up
to 20 using mental strategies. We will also use addition
and subtraction to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations
of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing.
Science/Social Studies: We will continue to discuss the roles and responsibilities of
citizens and “community helpers.” We
will also continue to discuss how the government plays a role in our community.
We will be celebrating our writing on Friday. Could you please send in juice and cookies for our class of 21! Thank you!!!!
